06.27.06 by Widge @ 9:51 am This 1973 performance of "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder on Sesame Street was so wicked and badass that it is considered by some music scholars as a Wold Newton-level event. All of the children who appeared on set when this event occurred have gone on to illustrious musical careers after having been exposed to the Funk Gods themselves touching down on The Street. For example, the kid on the upper fire escape/balcony thing using her own head for a maraca is a young PJ Harvey. Categorized as: Music

06.21.06 by Widge @ 12:01 am ![]() Muse's new album, Black Holes & Revelations, drops on July11th here in the U.S. I can't freaking wait myself. And if you can't freaking wait either... Well, you kinda have to. We can't help you with that. What we can help you with, though, is some swag: we've got a copy of the CD signed by the band and some kickass iPod speakers by Logitech we're giving away. Want them? Win them. If you dare. Go give the folks at Filter a big ol' bear hug for giving you the shot at such monumental swagness. Categorized as: Contests and Music

06.09.06 by Widge @ 4:21 pm Everyone else is going to link to this. And you're going to be sick of seeing it. But do you know why everyone's going to link to it? Because it's perfect. It's just flat out perfect. Watch and let the work week fall away from you. Categorized as: Music

06.09.06 by Widge @ 10:47 am Best answer to that question ever. In this performance of "Astronomy Domine," accompanied by an amusing interview, you get to see the first inkling of how they would go from this to giant arena rock with huge floating pigs and circular movie screens with computerized light shows. Ballrooms: the gateway drug for arena rock. And I love how Roger states he doesn't feel aggressive towards his audiences. This is the man who would go on to first visualize The Wall as an audience being bombed to bits and applauding the whole while. Categorized as: Music

06.06.06 by Widge @ 9:04 pm ![]() Yes, that's right. While the superstitious pigeons are freaking about the day, the rest of us are indulging in some wonderfully hellish good music and videos. Here's a roundup of some stuff to while away the night while waiting for a Gregorian calendar-dependent evil to descend upon us all, no doubt in punishment for Dan Brown becoming a bijillionaire on our watch: Beware of the Blog has scads of links for your enjoyment, including but not limited to: a video of Santa vs. Satan, a guide to exorcism recordings, and Anton Lavey's "Satan Takes a Holiday." And something that's truly wrong: "Abbott and Costello Meet the Anti-Christ" Categorized as: Music
