Mike Patton Gets His Mojo with Peeping Tom: I Can't Believe He Did It Again

Peeping Tom CD cover art

Mike Patton, one of the vocalists I revere as a god, has a new project/album about to hit from his own Ipecac Records: Peeping Tom. The list of co-conspirators on this thing is formidable, to say the least: Kool Keith, Massive Attack, and Norah Jones (apparently saying "fuck," which has everybody all a-twitter...no idea) are just a few.

Check out the project info. Here's a slice:

This is my version of pop music. In a way, this is an exercise for me: taking all these things I've learned over the years and putting them into a pop format. I've worked with many people who have said to me, 'oh you have a pop record in you, eventually you'll find it,' and I always laughed at them. I guess I owe them an apology.

We're Your Source of Self-Destruction: Primus and Metallica's "Master of Puppets"
Posted on 05.11.06 by Widge @ 4:39 pm

Because Les Claypool secretly runs the one world government. Here he proves it by leading Primus in a rousing deconstruction of "Master of Puppets." If you don't already know why the two are connected then your clearance level just doesn't run high enough. Sorry.

If somebody has a full video of them utterly destroying Ministry's "Thieves," as I saw them do aeons ago at a Lollapalooza show, then I'll be that person's fiend for life.

Why See Cirque? Your Mother Should Know.

The Beatles: Cirque du Soleil Love

The new Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas, Love, has tickets on sale now with shows starting June 2nd. This show is based on the music and lyrics of The Beatles, so it's a bit of departure from your regular Cirque show. We understand it will still be filled with people who are so unbelievably fit and buff and able to do crazy shit with their bodies that you'll swear they were all grown in a vat up at Cirque HQ in Montreal. But that is an unsubstantiated rumor upon which we cannot comment further.

Cirque appears to be taking over Vegas like Starbucks is taking over the rest of the world. They have, what, five shows there now? I'm going to need to sell both my kidneys to be able to see the shows at this point. Maniacs.

New Music. Well, New For Us, Anyway...

Murder by Death

Blind Roosevelt Graves. It's so nice to hear a song about Jesus that doesn't make me break out in hives. "Woke Up This Morning (with my mind on Jesus)" can be found via the excellent Pre-War Blues.

Dropbass. Somebody combined "Work It Out" with Tomoyasu Hotei's song "Battles Without Honor or Humanity," which is apparently actually called just something like "Theme from 'Another Battle'". This mashup should not work. And it does. And that fills me with dread for all mankind. Found via The Pop View.

Metric. Lots of songs to enjoy by this group--never heard of them before. Myself, I'm partial to "Calculation Theme," which is pretty much everything I want to write about in my next straight fiction novel. Scary when that happens. "I'm sick, you're tired, let's dance." Wonderful. Found via out the other... The band's official website. Buy Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? from Amazon.

And let's talk about two bands at once here. Part of my problem with Godspeed! You Black Emperor is the fact that, to me, their songs feel like they last as long as the Wagner Ring Cycle, and there will be only bits of each individual song that I like. And because I'm a lazy bastard, I just can't bring myself to cut out the really cool part from 28 Days Later that was taken from their song "East Hastings," for example.
