04.18.06 by Widge @ 9:57 pm Why give you the Gnarls Barkley performance of "Crazy" from Top of the Pops? Because 1) it's a badass alternate version. 2) Dig them strings, baby. 3) Danger Mouse is working that hat, okay? Categorized as: Music

04.15.06 by Widge @ 2:13 am We don't often smack you with music videos. Because, really, 95% don't interest us in the least. However, animated bunnies + wrong = gold. So enjoy. Direct link for the feedreaders. The song is "Everyone Else Has Had More Sex Than Me," by TISM. We weren't familiar with them, so checking out that Wikipedia article we learned: "After their first show, the 'Get Fucked' concert at the Duncan McKinnon Athletics Reserve in Murrumbeena, December 6, 1983 TISM split up. Every gig since has been a reunion concert." Genius. Categorized as: Music

04.14.06 by Widge @ 11:46 pm On Cypress Avenue has posted the new leaked Tool single, "Vicarious." It starts off sounding like typical Tool, like something right off of Lateralus, but by the end it gets so freaking heavy that space starts to bend around it for God's sake. Very, very nice. Pre-order the album 10,000 Days here. Update: We're getting hammered from all directions on this post. Thanks to everyone for coming and joining us in our love of music that grinds you into a fine powder, sticks you in a bag, and steeps you for its tea. But enough about tea...stick around and have some coffee! Update: I've been inspired to convert my review of Salival into Wordpress out of the archives. Enjoy, amigos. Categorized as: Music

04.14.06 by Widge @ 11:24 pm ![]() YuppiePunk provided a nice write-up of The Wilhelm Scream. If you don't know what it is, you should. Here's the lovely video they pointed out as well, for those who just need a refresher. You have to really listen hard for some of them, though, so A.D.D. types need not apply: Direct link for the feedreaders. And they have the excellent taste to point out the Chazzie-nominated band, A Wilhelm Scream. Which should be done often. Categorized as: Music and Stimuli

04.08.06 by Widge @ 8:25 pm ![]() Quick rundown of the latest tracks from the music blogosphere that have cranked our collective tractor. For the ultimate musical timesuck, check out the Hype Machine. The Cat Empire. Brass section that's sharp enough to cut glass coupled with some sweet beats. "Hello" is fun in a gel caplet. They remind me of Reel Big Fish crossed with Black Grape. Experience some at Aurgasm. Official site. Buy the album. Magnet. "Hold On." Magnet is apparently just one guy, which, as a singer who can't write music to save my misbegotten life and who doesn't play well with others--folks like him disgust me in the best way. "I'm my own band! Moohahaha!" They laugh at me through my headphones. Mocking bastards. Anyway, this reminds me of a folksy Kenna, and it is nice and smooth. Found via the inevitable Gorilla vs. Bear. Official site. Buy the album. Petracovich. Check out "Nighttime." Gorgeous, slightly melancholy, moderately cryptic, begs to be listened to while driving down the highway, full moon, windows down. Found originally via Shake Your Fist, file's still live and available via Pocket|Trax. Official site. Buy the album. Tin Hat Trio. Piano, guitar, percussion and liberal doses of strings. That's some excellent stuff and we are absolute suckers for strings. Found as well via Aurgasm. Official site. Buy the album. Voxtrot. "I will never live like you but you will probably die like me..." I think what draws me to songs like "Raised by Wolves" is that if you just listen without paying attention, it sounds like just another pop rock song. Then you listen to the lyrics and there's a totally different thing going on. Found via Tonight Let's Dance. Official site. Categorized as: Headsup and Music
