10.18.08 by Widge @ 7:23 am ![]() Levi Stubbs, lead singer of The Four Tops, died in his sleep at his home in Detroit. He was 72 years old. Even though we thank Levi for The Tops' many most excellent songs, like "Standing in the Shadows of Love," "Reach Out I'll Be There," and "Can't Help Myself," we also thank him for what's after the break. 10.15.08 by Widge @ 8:00 pm Rox just sent this over. And there's really very little one can say about it. I'm just going to let the man speak for himself. Direct link for the feedreaders. This has been a public service announcement. Below the break, though, won't be. Categorized as: Music

10.15.08 by Widge @ 7:47 pm The man who composed one of the most well-known and beloved cheeseball TV theme intros of all time, Neal Hefti, died this past Saturday. He was 85. Thanks for everything, Neal. Including the song that has gotten stuck in more heads more often than probably any other. Categorized as: Music

10.12.08 by Widge @ 2:29 pm John Lee Hooker performing "It Serves Me Right to Suffer" from 1969. The subtitles are bit odd, for example putting "This did this" instead of "Just dig this." But the performance is so smooth it's positively frictionless. Couldn't pass this one up. Direct link for the feedreaders. Found via Classic Television Showbiz. Below the break, I've included another of his live performances--"Hobo Blues" from 1965--as a long distance dedication to John Hodgman. Categorized as: Music

10.11.08 by Widge @ 10:21 pm Just when you thought Family Guy would get the last word on mocking a-ha, somebody comes along and creates something genius. Direct link for the feedreaders. And just because I can, a cover of the song from the lost Parker/Stone classic, BASEketball, after the break. Thanks to my amigo Toby for the headsup. Categorized as: Music
