10.05.08 by Widge @ 10:32 pm When you first hear that The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is covering Isaac Hayes' "Theme from Shaft," that alone is worth a chuckle. However, not only is it amusing because of their performance--the musical bit is quite good, too. Direct link for the feedreaders. It's funny--the ukulele doesn't get a lot of respect. You see it and you start snickering. Okay, maybe not you. Maybe that's just me. But regardless, I think what we need is a Les Claypool of ukuleles. Thoughts? Another vid of uke goodness after the break. Categorized as: Music

They are your guardo camino. And now, good news, in the light of their reunion tour. Not another reunion tour, which would be nice. Especially one that came nearer to me, you know. Anyway, first, their massive Big Green Book boxed set is now available on Amazon, for those of you who couldn't attend a show or find a friend to attend on your behalf. Needcoffee Irregular La Gridmonster was kind enough to hook me up for which I am quite grateful. But buy yours today. Do it for the children, if not for yourself. Also, a docu, Get in the Van, was shot during the tour. I have the sneaking suspicion that clues as to why we don't get more reunion tours may lie within. Here's a trailer: Categorized as: Music

09.14.08 by Widge @ 7:15 am This is probably going to be one of those things where I'm greeted with, "Why yes, of course--you mean you didn't know that?" But no, I didn't know about the Rev. Maynard's pre-Tool band, Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty. But I will say that I agree with one of the commenters on the YouTube page: even in the midst of this 80s-tastic footage, Maynard seems to sound great. Categorized as: Music

Ken and Quick Stop Entertainment's latest round of Masters of Song Fu pits two masters against one another: Gonzo veterans Paul and Storm against MST3K veterans The Rifftones. The task is simple: make a new dance craze single based around a famous inventor. The songs are "Make Fire!" and "Do the Ballpoint!" I think you can see where this is going. Listen to both and vote for your favorite. There's the challengers too. Lots of good and interesting bits. And check out the kickass art from Len Peralta of Jawbone Radio (and *cough* Zombie in My Treehouse) as well. Categorized as: Music
