09.08.06 by Widge @ 11:04 am ![]() Remember when comic book annuals were a culmination of the year's plots and characters? When they used to be a big deal? Before they got turned into an attempt to do multi-part storylines that sucked? Well, that's the gist behind Widge Goes Off Giant-Sized Annual #1, in which you get a ringside seat at a Needcoffee geek summit. Frightening. Anyway...in this super-sized episode: Leigh and Dindrane forge an unholy alliance that threatens to rock the Needcoffee crew to their very core! ScottC's guilty pleasure movie choice gains him unparalleled amounts of ridicule! And this is Scott we're talking about here! And I just sit back and listen to them do my podcast for me! Moohoohahaha! Categorized as: Rants

08.28.06 by Widge @ 6:43 am ![]() We've reached Episode 10 of Widge Goes Off, the rambling stream of consciousness podcast disguised as entertainment news and discussion. You can find the latest one here at Quick Stop Entertainment. That is an image of a croissant. For no reason whatsoever except that I can. I have gone mad with power, I tell you. Mad. Grrr. 08.23.06 by Widge @ 1:40 am ![]() Just received a press release here from KFC that they have created a Moms Matter! Advisory Board. I'm struggling with what this means. Moms from all walks of life and different parts of the country will join a group of mothers employed by KFC on the new Advisory Board. The group will help KFC harness the experience that motherhood provides... About...making chicken? ...and channel that knowledge into ways to better meet moms' needs. Oh. Of course. Wait. What? Julienne Smith, founder and author of "Food For Talk," a recipe box of conversation starters that promote family bonding, will join the Advisory Board as an expert contributor. "As a mom and author, I know from experience that families are starved for quality time," says Smith, who describes herself as a "professional mom." "Meals are a great occasion to reconnect and who better than KFC to bring us all to the table to talk about ways to make that time mean even more." Categorized as: Rants

08.22.06 by Widge @ 2:53 am ![]() The BBC reports that Boomerang is editing Tom and Jerry cartoons where animals are seen smoking. Think about that for a moment: anthropomorphic animals who beat the living shit out of each other for laughs occasionally smoke--and people are worried that kids will be so detached from reality that the smoking will warp their minds. We all grew up watching these unedited cartoons--when was the last time somebody you knew confided that they started smoking because of a cat and a mouse? That's right, we all started smoking right after we ordered a green Bat-suit from the Acme Catalog and then drew a tunnel on the wall so that Accelleratii Incredibus could run into it. Well, at least the huge numbers of people who bitched are happy now. Or probably not, since I can't imagine people like that ever being happy with their station in life.
Wait...a viewer? A viewer? A single viewer? Vintage, classic animation is being fucked with because one viewer is afraid that Tom and Jerry have more influence over their kids than they do? Wait, we don't even know if this single, unnamed viewer has kids, do we? Un-fucking-believable. Categorized as: Rants and TV

08.21.06 by Widge @ 7:22 pm ![]() Amazing...your prayers--or whatever--were answered. Here I was bitching about Snakes on a Plane not getting the #1 spot, but now that the actuals are out, Snakes has won by a forked tongue. So take this WGO as a cautionary tale--and don't put me through this shit again. BTW, for you iTunes folks, you can grab the "official, unofficial" feed here. Yes, I finally registered it my own damn self. But if you've already subscribed manually, it's the same difference. Categorized as: Rants
