Capucine and the Epic Tale of Magic and Crocodiles
Posted on 11.15.08 by Widge @ 1:49 am

The following story has been making the rounds, but little does everyone know that the story is currently in the middle of a bidding war between Warner Brothers, Paramount and Universal. Martin Scorsese wants in and wants Leonardo DiCaprio to play the lead hippo.

She's got better story structure at four than most Rob Schneider films, that's for damn sure.

Stephen Fry vs. The Orb Spiders!

Stephen Fry vs. The Orb Spiders

You might be wondering why there's a picture of a guy's hand there. Well, it's because the picture that this link will take you to, and for that matter, this link, are not for the faint of heart. And definitely not for Dindrane. Din? You hear me? Do NOT click on those links. And when you do it anyway, do NOT freaking blame me, okay?

Those links take you to pictures of orb spiders, captured by Stephen Fry on his "Would You Like Fry With That?" World Tour 2008. A comment on one is "Sorry it's blurry: FEAR." They are essentially Shelob's tiny little cousins. Why is Stephen running around the world looking at stuff like orb spiders? Because he's Stephen Goddamn Fry, intellectual powerhouse. And that's What He Does.

Am I the only one who wants to read a novel where Stephen Fry saves the world, operating as a cross between James Bond, David Attenborough, Charles Morse from The Edge, and Peter Cook? I didn't think so. If someone will get me the rights, I'll do it for a very reasonable price.

Keep up with Stephen's real life adventures by following him on Twitter.

Americans for Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand
Posted on 11.01.08 by Widge @ 3:57 am

Jonathan Ross Russell Brand

I'll let you read the Chortle article if you want the full story, but here's the gist:

Russell Brand has...had...a radio show. Jonathan Ross was on hand to co-host. They were supposed to be chatting with Andrew Sachs, he of Fawlty Towers fame. Sachs couldn't make it, so they proceeded to leave some messages on his answerphone...some not very nice messages. Specifically they had to do with Sachs' granddaughter and Brand's claims that he had known the young lady in the *cough* biblical sense.

The end result is that Brand and Ross screwed up. They shouldn't have been leaving such messages in the first place because telling somebody's granddad that you made the beast with two backs with them is just flat uncool. Ross didn't help matters by using embellishments of language in the background. So an apology was in order, was given, but things have gotten a little out of hand: Brand has quit his radio show, Ross is suspended for twelve weeks from the BBC, and Ross has also had to pull out of hosting the comedy awards.

Halloween Day 32: Odds and Ends
Posted on 10.31.08 by Widge @ 3:15 am

Christ, I can't believe it's over already. 32 Days of Halloween PART 2 is about to draw to a close. I'd like to thank everybody who turned out to see our parade of weirdness, I'd like to thank everybody who sent in stuff and the staff, especially Rox, Rob and Scott. Still one more movie to go--and I bet you can guess what it is--but for now, here's some bits that I couldn't fit in anywhere else and I felt you should have them before we close for another year.

First up, "Uncle" Vincent hosts something for the kiddies. Is there anybody who wouldn't want Vincent Price to read you a story? Is there an audio collection of the masters of horror reading fairy tales? If not, WHY NOT?

Direct link for the feedreaders.

Seriously, where are not just the best actors but the best voices? Where's the Paul Frees and Thurl Ravenscroft Grimm Fairy Tales unabridged audiobook. I DEMAND IT.
