The Hills Are Alive With Bouncy Balls
Posted on 07.29.05 by Widge @ 7:51 pm

Bouncy balls. A staple of childhood. Fun. Bouncy. And most importantly...harmless. Until now.

They have been dwelling among us, hiding behind their colorful exteriors, waiting for the time when they would organize, rise up, and send an army cascading into the streets to destroy us and our puny human way of life. Behold. It has happened. We are all doomed. Make peace with your gods.

Found via Boing Boing.

Update: AHHH!!!! Video evidence of the army has surfaced. What you don't see are the little old nuns being pummeled into oblivion at the bottom of the hill. Oh, the humanity. Found via Screenhead.

December Tsunami Caught on Audio
Posted on 07.28.05 by Widge @ 12:15 am

If you've ever wanted to hear what a 9.3 earthquake sounds like underwater from 1700 miles away, here's your chance. They've got an audio online from the quake that caused the 12/26 Indian Ocean tsunami. Terribly eerie stuff.

Update: While we're talking eerie, here's some radio emissions from Saturn.

Blind Gamer Can (and Will) Kick Your Ass
Posted on 07.27.05 by Widge @ 11:36 pm

Just when I thought Bailey kicking my ass repeatedly in video games was humbling, along comes Brice Mellen. Dude could beat me (and probably anybody here on the staff) like a rented mule at these games...and he's blind. Here's the story.

Today, GTA: San Andreas. Tomorrow, High School Football!
Posted on 07.27.05 by Widge @ 4:12 pm

If you've been rolling your eyes at the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas kerfuffle, then we highly recommend checking out this piece, written by Steven Johnson, author of Everything Bad is Good for You. Here's a snippet:

I'd like to draw your attention to another game whose nonstop violence and hostility has captured the attention of millions of kids — a game that instills aggressive thoughts in the minds of its players, some of whom have gone on to commit real-world acts of violence and sexual assault after playing.

I'm talking, of course, about high school football.

I know a congressional investigation into football won't play so well with those crucial swing voters, but it makes about as much sense as an investigation into the pressing issue that is Xbox and PlayStation 2.

We like this guy more and more all the time. Found via Boing Boing.

To Live and Die in Shanghai
Posted on 07.27.05 by Widge @ 2:17 am

Boing Boing points out a map that's making the rounds showing fourteen locations where one can best end their own life.

Our personal favorites are the two showing here. Up top, we're pretty sure that translates to "Pills are available here that will make you breakdance yourself to death." And then below that, "Tigers here enjoy a good piece of ass."
