The Friday Timesuck

Jesus, is it Friday again? Ye gods, where does the time go?

Okay, so here's a recap of the best and the most banal.

Red Nose Net was announced, our own personal Slashdot of funny shit, all to benefit Comic Relief. If you haven't checked it out yet, we urge you do to so.

My review of Star Wars has been making the geeks hang their heads in silent recognition...not of my critic fu, but of how crappy a film that was. The one-two punch of that and my notes from the film have been making the rounds online, for which I'm most grateful. Send them to a Star Wars geek today and ruin their weekend. Every time you do, a Jedi catches fire. The film is being discussed here.

As always, keep an eye on the Contests category and make sure you've entered the latest. Once, though. Just enter once.

On the Gabfest side of the house, the new site Plogress has those of us here in the U.S. raring to keep tabs on our Congressional reps--somebody has to. If you want to be disturbed, we strongly recommend The Cat With Hands and if you want to potentially burn in hell, then get your questions answered at The God FAQ. Tuffley is doing his thing with his latest Great Debate. And we're also having fun mocking the Creationists, but then again, who isn't?

Red Nose Net

Well, one of the benefits of being insane is that you can always find more time and less sleep in order to get things done. That's not the reason we launched this new site, but just a general comment on our state of mind.

But to our point. The new site is Red Nose Net, and it's basically a hub for online funny, all to benefit Comic Relief. We're not affiliated with Comic Relief, obviously, we just want to help them out and bring the glory of Red Nose Day to the online community at large.

For more info about this fiendish plot (and info on Red Nose Day and how it figures in), check out the new site's Mission Statement. And if you decide to help the cause by putting up a banner on your own site, be our guest.

Well, let's see...the second Discardia game ended and Cosette, who wasn't even playing, won, making her the undefeated champion. It's a long story.

We had our in-depth coverage of the new FDR files went up this past week. This week's Great Debate about Star Wars has been a good one. We're very pleased with the new pro-filesharing seal, and we absolutely love Geek Fantasies. Brilliant stuff there.

On the Gabfest side of the house, Scott found a message from the Creator, and there's the new MPAA movement to guilt you into not being pirates.

Much hullaballoo is underway about the PS3 and the new Xbox in our gaming forum, there was a nostalgic look back at the world of Star Wars product suck, and Google may have put SETI@home out of business.

Okay, that's it. Go indulge. And if you have already indulged, do it some more. Remember: nothing exceeds like excess.

A Seal of Common Sense

Best idea we've heard this week. Boing Boing alerted us to this. Nick over at 53x11 (who apparently is 53x11--I dunno, it's a bike thing) has created a pro-file sharing seal for those artists who don't want to be confused with those luddite types who freak about such things.

Check it out here.

Somewhere, Triumph is Laughing His Doggy Ass Off

It's a shame this is a gag, since I'd love to see some models descend upon the geek brigade waiting in line to take Lucas' next bitter pill, and hand out flyers for 25% their first three months' membership. Or do the same thing at numerous Cons around the country...seriously, a site like this could clean up.

Anyway, if your workplace frowns on models in bikinis fondling Transformers action figure packaging, then wait till you get home. But Geek Fantasies you simply must see.
