01.16.08 by Widge @ 5:16 am ![]() The Neil points out that somebody shot the Coraline trailer, apparently from the audience. This is a 3-D trailer and naturally shooting from what I guess was a phone camera isn't going to give you the same effect, but as he also points out--when people are oohing that probably means "3-D shot." Bear in mind this trailer, even in 3-D, is nowhere near as creepy as the movie itself should be. So. Categorized as: Stuff You Need to Know

12.14.07 by Widge @ 11:44 pm ![]() So Ain't It Cool has got the trailer (and it looks like the embed's been replaced at least once since they put it up early this morning). Whatever, it's out in the wild now, so rather than try to embed here and play the take-down-put-it-back game with Warner Brothers, I forget where we saw it mentioned, but I think it's wise to consider the quotation marks around the word "leaked." Nothing quite like a "leaked" trailer to build buzz. I'm just saying. Found via Slashfilm. Snippet of badass poster found at Batman on Film. Update: The clean (i.e. not cam-shot) version is now on YouTube. VideoSift has it. Categorized as: Stuff You Need to Know

12.06.07 by Widge @ 11:21 pm ![]() So Packaged Facts says that energy drinks could blow past $9 billion in sales by 2011. It was originally $8.5 billion but then I called and reminded them they left my consumption out, so they revised it. Uncle Warren's consumption doesn't really count because Red Bull air drops him free kegs of the stuff. So. Anyway, sales have gone up 440% from $1.2 billion in 2002 to $6.6 billion this year. So wowzers. You can find the full report here. And while we're talking about energy drinks, Energy Fiend has a report on "vitality drinks" and how they're different from energy drinks. They mention this in the context of the wonderfully grey and black Marquis Platinum Vitality Drink, and apparently "It's a 'vitality' drink because it doesn’t have the usual formula of synthetic caffeine and High Fructose Corn Syrup." Ah, gotcha. Categorized as: Stuff You Need to Know

08.22.07 by Widge @ 11:30 pm ![]() Needcoffee.com Lifetime Achievement Award winner Ray Bradbury has his birthday today. Before we do anything else, I would urge you to go and purchase, if you have not already done so, Zen in the Art of Writing. It doesn't matter if you're a writer, painter, musician--whatever. I've never found a better book for kicking one's creativity in the ass to get it moving. In fact, even if you're not an artist of any kind, it will still be of use to you. Just trust me on this. Now, speaking of writing, Uncle Ray has some words for you. Speaking of asskicking: Categorized as: Stuff You Need to Know

08.18.06 by Widge @ 3:04 am ![]() Yeah, I know everybody's already reporting this, but hell. Johnny Depp's Todd and Tim Burton's in the chair. Can Depp sing? If he can, then I'm not worried about him in the least. As for Burton, as long as we've got the Big Fish and Ed Wood Burton and not the Apes or Sleepy Hollow Burton, then I think we're in good shape. My review of the kickass current revival on Broadway is here. Categorized as: Stuff You Need to Know
