The director of Atlas Shrugged has been shunted from the project, so Cinematical reports. I'm in favor of this. Maybe the next director can jettison the screenwriter, in favor of somebody who's actually read the book--and understood it. In the interview I read with him, I got the feeling that Randall Wallace figured he could make up a new ending to the book, because surely no one's finished a book that size, right? Surely not... Disney parks are being Dixarified. Don't panic, because the Pixar folks have been working closely on the projects. Okay, well, it is Disney. I suppose a little panic is warranted.
China has started altering the names of dishes served in their restaurants, knowing that Engrish pics on Flickr will explode during the Olympics if they don't take action. So if you wanted "Chicken Without Sexual Life," well, tough. Because it's only chicken with sexual life going forward. Or as it translates back into English, "steamed pullet."
Iron Man has crossed the $300M box office mark, and has more than $550M worldwide. Has anyone checked to see if this has helped sales of the comic book upon which the film is based? I would bet probably not, since movie Tony Stark isn't, you know, a ginormous prick.

Because some things you simply need to know. Here's the day's news in a quick digest form. Trust me, you lost nothing if somebody got cast in some film at 8am and you're finding out about it now.
The Catholic Church is putting together the criteria for what they think constitutes good cinema. From the report: "Priest Marco Fibbi, a spokesman for the Diocese of Rome, said Wednesday that the church was working on a set of guidelines that will determine whether a film contains the 'proper' religious sentiment." Meanwhile, the rest of the world is putting together criteria for what they think constitutes good religion. Top of the list? Not messing with altar boys.

Because some things you simply need to know. And why should you have no lives and read dozens of websites to know what's what? We're taking this one for the team.
Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno is scheduled to hit cinemas on May 15th, 2009. I don't think we need to elaborate further with this crowd.
Coca-Cola is taking their contoured 20 oz. bottle and blowing it up. And not with Mentos or anything like that. They're going to take that shape and put it in its 2-liter form, replacing its current boring shape. All the Coke brands will soon follow suit. This pilot of the new bottle shape rolled out to Birmingham, Alabama and Chattanooga, Tennessee yesterday. Found via BevNET.
Sam Raimi will direct The Given Day, the as-yet-unpublished novel by Dennis Lehane, author of Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone. Apparently Martin Scorsese is finishing up on an adaptation of Lehane's Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The report at Variety mentions that Spider-Man 4 is being scribed by James Vanderbilt, although last I heard there's some question as to whether or not Raimi will return. If not, solve this equation: Peter Jackson is to Guillermo Del Toro what Sam Raimi is to...whom? Anyway, the book is due out September 23rd. Pre-order it here.

Because some things you simply need to know. But it's silly to make you read a whole post about each one. The only thing sillier is us writing an entire post about each one. Enjoy.
Amazon has a DVD sale that looks a lot like the old DVD sale, but they do have a bunch of stuff for 50% off if you didn't take advantage last time. Maybe they're trying to make up for all the God! Damn! Down! Time! Found via Dealhack.
The Animated Adventures of Bob & Doug McKenzie, which we've mentioned before, has Fox on board. 13 episodes are ordered for 2009 by Global Television. In addition to Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis reprising their roles, at least vocally, also in the cast are Dave Coulier (yes, from Full House), Colin Mochrie (Whose Line All-Star), Pat McKenna, Derek McGrath, Ron Pardo, Jayne Eastwood and Ho Chow.
Angels & Demons, the follow-up to The DaVinci Code, can't film in any of Rome's churches, according to Hollywood Reporter: "Traditionally, we read the script, but in this case that was not necessary," said Fr. Marco Fibbi, spokesman for the Diocese of Rome. "The name Dan Brown was enough." Funny, that's how we feel about his stuff, too. This, of course, the latest in a conspiracy whereby whenever Dan Brown is out of the news for six weeks or more, Rome does something to remind us he exists.
