01.21.08 by ScottC @ 9:50 pm ![]() Widge is constantly going on about Skynet and the Rise of the Machines. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria. Yadda, yadda, yadda. Whatever, I usually put on my headphones and ignore him. He usually stops after an hour or so. Hopefully this article from Robot World News will calm him a little. It seems that Artificial Intelligence researchers at Eotvos University in Hungary has progressed so far that they no longer using the medieval game of chess for testing. Global Thermonuclear War? So 20th century. They are testing the latest ruled-based algorithms and cross-entropy processes with... Ms. Pac-Man. So all humanity has to do when the machine revolution occurs is wait until the cybernetic soldiers run out of quarters. Categorized as: Tech

12.14.07 by Widge @ 2:31 am Just saw from The Long Tail blog that Chris Anderson, editor-in-chief of Wired, got smacked with a $2100 bill from his iPhone checking messages automagically while he was in China. This apparently seems to be going around, showing here: Direct link for the feedreaders. On one hand, it's probably a good idea to familiarize yourself with the cost plans of your devices ahead of time. On another hand, Consumerist points out that apparently Crackberry users get a better deal on international data plans than iPhone users (probably because iPhone users are used to overpaying for things--cough cough). And on a third hand (that you presumably borrowed from someone else, just make sure you give it back--and wash it before you do), when the editor-in-chief of Wired gets blindsided by a bill having to do with technology, this does not bode well. It's a good thing I didn't have an iPhone on me when I found myself mysteriously in Croatia in the last post, that's for damn sure. Whew. Categorized as: Tech

06.14.07 by Widge @ 11:23 pm ![]() Pink Tentacle mentioned that the Tamanoi Vinegar Corporation has had a robot made--a robot that's allegedly going to impress you with its prowess of vinegar. But...I mean, look at it. Skynet is getting pretty bold if it thinks we're going to fall for that. This looks more like a Maximillian for a Black Hole remake than it does a salesman. It's so sleek and black and evil looking...sort of like me, except I'm not metal and plastic and I'm definitely not sleek. Watch this thing carefully, folks. It's a bald-faced sleeper agent, mark my words. Categorized as: Tech

10.13.06 by Widge @ 3:30 am ![]() Fascinating. Not only does this "steampunk laptop" look pretty damn cool (and apparently comes with a morse code input per Gizmodo), but the whole thing works. You could seriously develop a whole line of these. They're probably sell. They'd be like the Bizarro version of Alienware. Sweet. Categorized as: Tech

10.07.06 by Widge @ 5:33 am ![]() Okay, what did I say? The truth can now be told. Why did Arnold come back in time to take out Sarah Connor? Because robots think we taste like bacon. No, honestly. The robot in question was originally designed to taste wine via an infrared spectrometer. But when a reporter put his hand over the sensor, the robot identified him as prosciutto. I have visions of ravenous Roombas rolling up to people like that annoying dog in those commercials: "BACON!!!!!" Do you have any grasp of how screwed we are? Make peace with your gods.
