Indiana Jones Adventure Heroes: Belloq, Ark and Ghost

Ken found these at Target. And on first glance, they seem cute. Cute little Indy toys for three-year-olds and up. But really...when you think about it: they're kinda twisted.

Pictured is the packaging for Belloq, who comes with the Ark and a Ghost. Look at it: the Ghost looks even friendlier than the ones in the Haunted Mansion, for crying out loud. And you can pose him as though he were streaming out of the Ark...you know, to melt everyone's faces?

More figures after the break.

[[ More mayhem this way... ]]

1941 vs. The Empire Strikes Back

1942 Star Wars Chewbacca

Consider this the Needcoffee version of an Elseworlds story.

After the monster success (pardon the pun) of Jaws, Steven Spielberg had his pick of projects. He passed on Jaws 2, Superman, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Spielberg's love of the pulp/WWII era led him to start preproduction on a promising script from Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale titled 1941. However, it became clear that this movie was quickly turning into a expensive career-ending disaster. Does Spielberg admit defeat? No, he gives a friend a call.

George Lucas was in pre-production hell. Trying to develop his "Adventures of Luke Starkiller, as taken from the Journal of the Whills, Saga I: The Star Wars" script to screen is proving to be a Herculean effort. Trying to explain to studio executives about Jedi Knights was taking most of his energy. One day, his friend Steven Spielberg gives him a call. During their conversation, Spielberg brought up how they always wanted to work on a project together. He suggests combining the WWII material he has with Lucas' script and making something unique. A WWII science fantasy.

As you can see above, the customization master Sillof took this theme and ran with it in his collection of Star Wars 1942 figures. But where's the Leia figure dressed like Betty Grable?

And in this Elseworlds tale, at least the Japanese accents of the Trade Federation would make sense.

Ernie P. McMurphy, from One Flew Over the Big Bird

Ken sent me a link to this auction.

And yes, that's supposed to be a large body puppet of Ernie from Sesame Street. But to me...

To me it looks like Ernie after the lobotomy.

Right before Sweetums comes and smothers him with the pillow.

Pink Hobby Lobby Jet

In a move that's sent shock waves through out the makeup world, Mary Kay announced today they have launched a "Healthier Skin Through Air Power" campaign, rolling out their newest offering: Viper jets with pink highlights.

"Pink Cadillacs are so 90s," said one unnamed source. "It's getting so you can't throw an eyeliner without hitting a pink something or other with four wheels. But when you're driving one of these, baby--people know you're to be taken seriously."

Darkseid Is! (a Lego)

The artist's name is xueren. They are the creator of a slew of DC and Marvel characters (among others) as custom Lego minifigs. What's nuts is that there's characters that I don't even recognize--and I used to study my copies of Who's Who and Marvel Universe. Isn't that sad? (Note: rhetorical.)
