Moonstone Monsters: Sea Creatures from Moonstone. Joe Gentile, Ben Raab, David Rust (Writers); Chris Burnham, Rich Gulick, Bill Halliar, Scott LeMien (Artists); Chris Burnham, Erik Enervold, Chuck Maly (Letterers). In a three story book that would make EC proud, Moonstone does not bring you the Black Lagoon-looking fellow on the front cover, but instead brings you a nine-foot tall killer anthropomorphic frog, a goldfish bent on revenge, and a...well, the third story's so messed up we're not sure what to think about it. And yes, that's a compliment. All the stories are worthy on the writing side, though Gentile's (the last one), as you can imagine holds a place in our hearts. Of the art, the first story, "Croaked," is the most intriguing for Burnham's use of simple black and white--nothing in between. It's different and reminds me of the style we'd see in an issue of Sin City or the like. Also of note is LeMien's treatment of the goldfish story--his use of very thing, light lines and ability to make even a goldfish look pissed is commendable. If you miss the old EC titles, then this entry in Moonstone's Monster line should please you muchly.
