Scream 2 (1997)

Directed by Wes Craven
Written by Kevin Williamson
Starring Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Jerry O'Connell, Jada Pinkett

My Advice: Wait and Rent It.

Well, this sequel had everything the original film did not.  It had (apart from the established survivors of chapter one) forgettable characters who were walking around with "Fodder" tattooed on their foreheads.  It had a completely unbelievable yet yawn-ridden ending.  It also managed to take what started out as an interesting franchise and ruin it halfway through the second film with a completely stupid event which you'll recognize immediately when you see it.  Highpoints are Jada Pinkett's sarcastic intro while watching the movie version of the first movie, and Courtney Cox's reprise of her Gale Weathers.  Other than that, one must ask of the franchise what Randy (Jamie Kennedy) asks of Arquette-- "What's with that limp?  You were stabbed in the back!"  We'll probably get the same answer: "Nerve damage."  Sigh.
