Why Tremors 3? That's a good question. We at DreamCasts don't normally work on sequels. But you see, the first one was an incredible hoot and a definite SDI fave. The second one was ehhhh...no. But when we heard the faintest rumor of a third movie and...aquatic graboids...we knew we had to take a crack at it so we could do it right this time.
What's the scoop? First of all, we need all the people from Tremors 1 back. I know they probably weren't written into the second one because of a lack of interest, but this is DreamCasts, dammit, and we call the shots around here. We shall see the storyline played out below, and don't freak if the characters are listed in a different order than up top. It's artistic license, so deal with it.
Michael Gross as Burt Gummer: Okay, so he's defeated the graboids twice but there's still something missing in his life--and it's Heather. He won't admit it, though, because after all--she left him. He doesn't even like to talk about how he saw his wife on television. She was on a Greenpeace ship, helping them face off against some government-sanctioned whalers. He was proud of her, but he can't admit it. He's too busy hardening his heart against her. He almost wants to call and tell her that even though he got depressed once the Cold War ended, now that there's the threat of terrorism rearing its ugly head even in the States, he's back to his old Burt. Then suddenly...the call.
Reba McEntire as Heather Gummer: That's right, Heather ran off and joined Greenpeace to try to get away from Burt's morbidity. But now she thinks she's in over her head, and reluctantly, she calls Burt for help. There's been a rash of whale killings, not to mention boats going missing, and they've got a marine biologist there who's not sure what it is. Heather thinks she knows, see? Graboids in the water (a fire in the sky).
Burt tries to play it cool, like he would be glad to help, he just so happens not to be terribly busy and was looking for something to do for the weekend, when inside he's going crazy because she's called him. So then Burt makes a call himself.
Fred Ward as Earl Bassett: Earl took the money he made off the job in the second film and bought a big boat, and he's been cruising around the Baja Peninsula ever since. He gets the call from Burt and hears that not only does he get a chance to take on the graboids once more, but he might get his buddy Burt back together with Heather, which he knows needs to happen. In fact, guess who happens to be visiting Earl.
Kevin Bacon as Val McKee, Finn Carter as Rhonda LeBeck: That's right, they're still together. And once Earl gets off the phone, he tells them they're taking a side journey of just a couple of days or so. Val and Rhonda agree readily, though she knows what might be going on.
Now that all the original players are in place, we have a couple of others to introduce.
Marisa Tomei as Dr. April Whitaker: Remember the marine biologist who was slowly figuring out where the dead whales were coming from? Well, here she is. And April is quite impressed with Val, and openly flirts with him much to the dismay of Rhonda. Val is devoted to Rhonda, but he has eyes. Earl just thinks the entire thing is hilarious.
Dick Miller as Captain Herb: We've been wanting to cast Dick Miller in something. Only true movie whackos know Dick, who's a helluva character actor who's been in...well, damn near everything. You know him, you just might not know that you know him. It'll be a good cameo to play the addled and intoxicated Captain Herb. And well, we need fodder.
We can't tell you how the story turns out. That's what actual
screenplays are for, and we haven't gotten paid for one yet...but we're
here waiting...and we'll write this one for a reasonable fee. Regardless,
do Burt and Heather get back together? Do we kill off either April
or Rhonda to let Val get off easy? Do we reveal the graboids' origins?
Hmmm....could be. Hire us dammit. Or suffer in your ignorance.
