05.12.08 by Widge @ 4:05 am ![]() Causing many to partake in a pygmy victory dance, Nikki Finke reports that the American version of Spaced--which we discussed previously and feared the script of the pilot previously as well--is DOA. Fox said no thanks to the pilot. So rejoice in the style of your choosing. Wright and Pegg will be, we're certain. Categorized as: TV

05.11.08 by Cosette @ 10:16 pm ![]() Okay, so Call of Duty 4. It lets you play as either American or British badasses ready to do battle with Those Who Threaten Our Way Of Life. It's won scads of awards for its gameplay and cinematic experience and whatnot. But what you're really interested in is this: "What does 'Game of the Year Edition' actually mean?" It means you get a token that enables you to download a variety pack of maps that would normally cost you $10 on Xbox Live. In addition to the regular game, of course. So...want to snag it? Of course you do. Enter to win. You can enter once a day, so don't miss a tick. Categorized as: Contests

05.11.08 by Widge @ 5:18 am What is CCTV good for? The debate rages on as the amount of cameras increase. But The Get Out Clause have very smartly taken what could be considered a pain in the ass and turned it around: they used Manchester's massive array of CCTV cameras to film their music video. They would setup, play in front of the cameras, then go home and write in for the footage via the Freedom of Information Act. Just like Dom Joly discovered in The Complainers, a lot of folks don't want to live up to their requirements under the FOI Act. So fun. Categorized as: Music

05.11.08 by Widge @ 4:43 am ![]() I'm sure we've all lost data at one point or another. Sometimes you lose data that you really can't afford to lose and you have to get an expert to go in and literally resurrect the data from the hard drive. I had a friend go through this recently--and it ain't cheap. But I think this trumps all: a company recovered data from a hard drive that had been onboard the Space Shuttle Columbia when it exploded back in 2003. "When we got it, it was two hunks of metal stuck together. We couldn't even tell it was a hard drive. It was burned and the edges were melted," said [Jon] Edwards, an engineer at Kroll Ontrack Inc., outside Minneapolis. "It looked pretty bad at first glance, but we always give it a shot."
Using the data they found intact on the drive, they were able to let researcher finish and publish an experiment. You can also see why DOS is still your friend by reading the full article. Categorized as: Tech

05.10.08 by Widge @ 4:09 pm ![]() Well, not to share too much with you folks, but I was apparently the proud recipient of a kidney stone last night. So I had a hot date with about 18mg of morphine and a trip to the emergency room. Not, however, in that order. Posting for the next little bit while be a bit erratic as I have a bottle of percosets here to keep me from trying to claw my face off due to the pain. Men, they say it's the closest you can come to experiencing what women deal with during childbirth. If more men went through this fun, there would never be a need to remind people to adopt. There'd be a worldwide queue for when kids became available. I'd also like to apologize to any children who might have been in the emergency room at the time, as I'm sure you learned lots of fun words. So...talk amongst yourselves. This stuff may cause sedation. And this one of the only times you'll ever hear me welcome sleep. Categorized as: Admin
