Stuff You Need to Know: Comic-Con in a Nutshell. A Very Large Nutshell.

Ezekiel & Shiva

In case you hadn’t noticed, San Diego Comic-Con just happened. And lots of stuff gets announced and lots of trailers happen and it’s basically just crammed with things. Here, I’ve tried to take the high points of the chaos and condense them into one huge post. There are lots of videos. You might want to go get a sandwich.

  • Firstly, we have tiger. Walking Dead had their Season 7 trailer which held to their desire to keep the Lucilled victim from the end of last season a secret. This is something, to be honest, I’m amazed hasn’t leaked yet considering how the maniacs (read: fans) of the show watch everything they do like overly caffeinated hawks. Regardless, we got a look at Shiva and no doubt the giant feline and Carol got the biggest laughs from Hall H. Khary Payton will be playing the Dread King Ezekiel.

Your Weekend Justice #241: There’s No Kangaroo Figs in Risk

    ABC After School Special

It’s Weekend Justice: the Internet’s #1 audio trainwreck…finally back after DragonCon and other things that provide both money and medication. Please Note: this episode was recorded before DragonCon, so this might seem like it came through the TARDIS…but if that makes it make more sense to you, then yeah, sure, go for it. Think that.

Stuff You Need to Know: They’re Dead… They’re All Messed Up

    Fear the Walking Dead

  • The big news from yesterday at San Diego was the one-two punch of Kirkman-infused zombie mayhem. We have the Season 6 trailer for Walking Dead, which is A) badass and 2) probably as misleading as the Season 5 trailer was. And I love being misled by trailers, so bring that noise. I’m sure I will have my own theories to air out on Weekend Justice. But it looks like the fit is going to hit the shan, starting October 11th.

Are You Looking Forward to the Ash vs. Evil Dead Toys?

    Army of Darkness Japanese poster

Because I am. Not just because you can’t have too many Bruce Campbell-related items in your house. I’m looking forward to the insane variations of the toys that might occur. You know what I’m talking about. And yes, I mean beyond just Daredevil having his own Hot Wheels car, which you could argue is just the artwork on the car not an implication that he himself is driving it.

Along that line though, you do get the Avengers Tower Takeover set from Hot Wheels…which would make sense if the Iron Man Mark VXXII or whatever was a car instead of a suit. Perhaps.

Stuff You Need to Know: Vice Squad to Hit HBO

    Shane Smith, founder of Vice

Shane Smith (center), founder of Vice, and friends

  • Looks like Shane Smith and the maniacs at Vice are getting their own news magazine program on HBO. Looks like we may be getting expanded versions of stuff they’ve done previously, like for their online Vice Guide to Everything and the book/DVD they put out a few years back, The Vice Guide to Travel. That contained bits like the one after the jump, which is why you want to be watching this show when it hits in April. Source.

Stuff You Need to Know: Daniel Day-Lewis is Abe, Honestly

    Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln

The frustrating thing about pop culture websites is they try to slam you with update after update–and most of it you simply don’t need to know. One post a week, catching you up with everything. That’s what we do. Pour some espresso and get your dose.

  • The Lincoln biopic, helmed by Spielberg, is a month into production and Hollywood Reporter had the first glimpse of Daniel Day-Lewis in full makeup as Abe. And damn. That’s pretty awesome. Cosette’s response: “Did he build a log cabin this time?” Yes. And studied his lines off a shovel. Is it just me or does this just make you want to see Day-Lewis fight vampires? Also, note that Variety says Jared Harris (the upcoming Moriarty–who, holy shit, that’s Richard Harris’ son!) will play Ulysses S. Grant and Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln.
  • Akira reworked plot points pointed out over at io9. Dindrane and fans of the original are warned to stay away, as you will have a severe allergic reaction. Here’s a taste: “Kaneda (Garret Hedlund) is a bar owner in Neo-Manhattan who is stunned when his brother, Tetsuo, is abducted by government agents led by The Colonel (Ken Watanabe).” And on from there.
