Rich Hall and the Insidious Cheesecake

Rich Hall, the man in black

Rich Hall was, to me anyway, known for Not Necessarily the News. Then he seemingly dropped off the face of the earth. Then a few years back when we started watching British panel shows–boom, there he was again. And he’s barely aged. Dude must have a portrait in the attic somewhere. Anyway, the following snippet is from his 2011 BBC Four documentary Continental Drifters, where he discusses road movies as a genre. I don’t know that it’s available stateside, so…get creative. It’s worth watching.

So is this. I think Rich makes his point pretty clear. It comes right after the jump.

Your Weekend Justice #145: Will Somebody Save Somebody?

It’s Weekend Justice: the Internet’s #1 audio trainwreck. It’s the podcast that can go to a Dark Place at the drop of a hat. And not every listener will make it back alive. This is both warning…and promise. This podcast was engineered–some might say over-engineered–by experts to escort you from the work week in the most chaotic manner possible. Please note: this podcast is profane, definitely oversexed and definitely overwrought. It is wrong and unsafe. You have been warned.

Martha Stewart Coming Home Poncho

Please note–an extra warning for this episode, in which terrible, sick jokes are made about children and taxidermy. In light of this, I would like to issue the following apology in advance:

In my rush to make a joke, I incorrectly identified Boris Karloff’s last film as 1968’s Targets, when as you, of course, well know–it was instead 1971’s The Incredible Invasion, released after his death. My apologies for any confusion or distress this slip-up may cause.

Agenda:

  • Everyone vs. Beck
  • And then…Beckham
  • Stealth hooligans
  • What the hell is this thing, anyway?
  • Ass crack o’clock
  • Something about Jill and her nipple
  • The Matrix spoilers
  • Being a bitch for D&D

Stuff Bulletin: Farscape on Sale; Lucas Says He’s Done; Jones Gets a Park

    Farscape: The Complete Series Blu-Ray

Pop culture can sometimes wait. However, a really great deal sometimes cannot. Thus, we interrupt this lack of interruption with the following headsup: the Amazon deal of the day is the complete series of Farscape. For today only–or until they run out–the Blu-Ray complete series is $68.99, 65% off the regular list price of $199.95. And the DVD complete series is $44.99, 70% off the regular list price of $149.95. And, of course, if you do take advantage of this using our links, we get kickbacks which helps pay for the site. So thanks for that.

    In other news…

  • George Lucas claims to be retiring in the wake of continued outcry against his tampering with Star Wars and the reaction of studios to his upcoming Red Tails. He says in the article, “I’m saying: ‘Fine. But my movie, with my name on it, that says I did it, needs to be the way I want it.'” Well, yes, George, but that doesn’t mean people have to like it. And–here’s why I think you’re just smarting from Red Tails more than anything else (we’re two days out from it opening and there’s one review on Rotten Tomatoes?)–you’re going to make money no matter what happens. People are going to go see Phantom Menace in 3D and even if they bitch the whole time they’re still giving you money. George, you are bulletproof. You’ll be back in the saddle before you know it. Episode VII. Mark my words. It’s still happening.

Win The People vs. George Lucas on DVD!

    People vs. George Lucas DVD

It’s The People vs. George Lucas, out on DVD from Lionsgate. Here’s what they have to say for themselves:

They gave him their love, their money and their online parodies. He gave them…the prequels. The passion the original STAR WARS trilogy inspires in its fans is unparalleled; but when it comes to George Lucas himself, many have found their ardor has cooled into a complicated love-hate relationship. This hilarious, heartfelt documentary delves deep into Lucas’s cultural legacy. Utilizing interviews taken from over 600 hours of footage, and peppered with extraordinary STAR WARS and INDIANA JONES re-creations lovingly immortalized in song, needlepoint, Lego, claymation, puppets and papier-mâché, above all this film asks the question: who truly owns that galaxy far, far away—the man who created it, or the fans who worship it?

    Trailer? Sure thing…

George Lucas vs. the “Oldboy” Network

    Lucas in Carbonite

Well, we’ve previously established that a conspiracy replaced George Lucas with a duplicate. These guys basically want to use a fictional trailer in order to help spread the word about this alien plague that takes our most talented directors from us.

The result is a great mashup that will quickly point those that know towards Oldboy…although if you take that extrapolation too much towards its logical conclusion, then it becomes terribly disturbing. You know…just like Oldboy. Regardless, kudos to these guys for spreading the word. One day when we have full disclosure of the alien menace, we can get Lucas back, as well as Carpenter and now, it seems, Spielberg.

    Found via Graham Linehan.
