My Head Hurts: When Graham Norton Floated With Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton and Graham Norton

I first learned of this when I was listening to Graham Norton’s episode of Desert Island Discs. A TV special from 2001 featured Norton going to Dollywood at the invite of the grand lady herself. One of the things that resulted was the following, which, in a fit of madness and hilarity, Norton picked as one of his discs to take to the desert island with him.

A Valentine’s Day Lesson in Flirting

Idris Elba posing for Graham Norton

Sometimes you need a relationship intervention via text. And there’s few better people to facilitate this than Lena Dunham (HBO’s Girls) and Idris Elba, while on a recent episode of Graham Norton‘s show from across the pond. I honestly think they need to spin this off into its own show: Graham nabs phones from the audience and a random panel of guests “assists” the phone owner. I would watch the hell out of that. Happy Valentine’s Day, you horde of lunatics.

Thanks to Rob for the headsup.

Your Weekend Justice #165: The Venn Diagram of My Fiendom

It’s Weekend Justice: the Internet’s #1 audio trainwreck. It’s the podcast that wants to strap you to a giant Pinewood Derby car without wheels, like some mad Bond villain deathtrap, and roll you into a vat of cottage cheese. This podcast was engineered–some might say over-engineered–by experts to escort you from the work week in the most chaotic manner possible. Please note: this podcast is profane, definitely oversexed and definitely overwrought. It is wrong and unsafe. You have been warned.

13 Days of Xmas 2011 – Day 4: Holiday Hocus Pocus

    Stephen Fry QI Christmas

Last year we did some more Brit Christmas TV fun, bringing you the monster-sized Christmas Whose Line Is It Anyway? episode from their second season. And led off from a bit out of the American version. So keeping with that them, we turn again to the best show the BBC thinks Americans aren’t smart enough to watch: QI.

Yes, it’s true: the BBC iPlayer is due to hit our shores any day now. And when it does, if you are a Anglophile worth a damn, get it. I know it’s iPad-only, but buy it anyway. Seriously. Otherwise, how will we prove to them that we can recognize good television? I mean, they were 100% right about how nobody gets Doctor Who over here…right? Rrright.

This magic-focused holiday party features Sir Stephen Fry, Alan Davies, Graham Norton, Lee Mack and…I dunno, some kid. I know him from somewhere…

Stuff You Need to Know: Really Useful, That YouTube

Frederick B. Owens as Caiaphas from Jesus Christ Superstar
  • Update: Apparently Amazon has some Wiis in stock for today only–they won’t let me link directly to the product, so here’s the Video Games page. You can navigate to it from there. Good luck.
  • Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s Really Useful Company has followed hard upon the Pythons by kicking off a YouTube channel with various and sundry bits. Here’s my favorite of the bunch so far: from the 2000 film version of Jesus Christ Superstar (original film version reviewed here; recent tour version reviewed here) , featuring a ridiculously basstastic Frederick B. Owens as Caiaphas:

  • When last we mentioned Jack Black’s Brutal Legend, it didn’t have a publisher after Activision dropped it. Now it’s at EA. It’s due out next fall. Source: Variety.
