T-Shirts: The Dark Taco is Among You Now and Other News…

Taco Dinosaur from Seibei in black at last

Been meaning to post about this for a while now. If there’s one shirt I wear that people ask me where I got it and can they have one…it’s the black Taco Dinosaur from SEIBEI. You’ve probably seen it in at least a couple of Wayhomers. When I saw that shirt, many moons ago, I immediately pinged David over there and said if it was in black, I’d buy one immediately. Well, he agreed to create a one-off and I snagged it with the condition that I tell everybody, no, they can’t have one. So I dutifully told everybody, no, they can’t have one but SEIBEI has plenty of other awesome shirts and go check them out.

But deep down I knew it was just a matter of time before he came to his senses and made it part of his regular stock. Because let’s face it: the shirt’s so awesome having it in black is about the only way to improve it. So here it is. Make sure you tell him we said hi. Use NEEDCOFFEE as a code when you check out (for this shirt or any of his stuff) and get 10% off your order.

In other news, Black Taco Dinosaur is a fantastic name for a band. Enough said about that.

So Who Would Play Henry Sr.?

Charlton Heston in Technicolor!

The guy who did the vintage Ghost Busters trailer, YouTube user whoiseyevan, has now taken Raiders of the Lost Ark and projected it backwards in time, so that it was released in 1951. And starred Charlton Heston.

As cool as this is, it’s even more impressive when you do the comparison between this and the real Raiders trailer and check out the guy’s annotations. Then you will truly appreciate the film geekery that goes into this. I embedded that below the jump for you for your dancing and dining pleasure.

Concord Records has re-released all three of the soundtracks to the original trilogy (the ones with 120% less suck). And along with the regular stuff there’s unreleased material on all three. And we’ve got a copy of the three here. And I suppose we should give them away, yes? Yes.

Enter below using the form–and enter once a day (you can enter all our contests once a day)–and if we draw your name, you win.

Win the Indiana Jones Crystal Skull Adventure Projector!

Indiana Jones Crystal Skull Adventure Projector

If you can’t get any crystal skull vodka, then you can at least get a crystal skull for your kid that doubles as a projector. It projects 24 images of scenes from the films as well as archaeological bits and you also get an audio tour on CD. This is out from Uncle Milton–find more of this goodness on their website. We’ve got one of them here–do you want to win it? Throw your name in the hat for the drawing using the form below–and do so once a day.

Win the Indiana Jones Giant RC Ant!

Indiana Jones Giant RC Ant

I must say: of all the Indiana Jones toys around, this one seems to me to have the most merit, especially considering it came from such a terrible film. What could you, as a kid, done with giant remote-controlled ant? The mind boggles. Anyway, we have one here. If you want to enjoy an ant with a crystal skull remote, then enter to win. One winner drawn at random–get your name in once a day by using the form below. Good luck.

Headsup: That Guy With the Whip Is Back on DVD

The entertainment industry is shoveling stuff at your head at an alarming rate. Should you buy? Should you rent? Should you flee? This is my attempt to assist.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull DVD cover art

Okay, so the fourth Indiana Jones film has hit both DVD and Blu-Ray. And let’s put aside our thoughts about the film itself for a moment. If you liked it, then you liked it and more power to you. I wish I could count myself among you, but I can’t. But regardless, that sort of sets you up as to whether or not you’re going to want to drop coin on these. More on that in a moment. First, I’ll say that the DVD is fairly well stacked for a first pass at this DVD release. You’ve got The Return of a Legend featurette, which takes you through the creation of the film so you can see what drove them to go back to the well and then the pre-production featurette which shows the prep work before the madness started. Then there’s the feature-length making-of docu, that goes through the actual shooting. In addition to this, there’s separate featurettes that cover props, post-production, the skulls themselves–six in all. Then there’s three pre-viz sequences provided as well as galleries. The Blu-Ray flavor has all of this, the vast majority of it in hi-def, plus an “Indiana Jones Timelines” feature that covers the story, the production and history aspects which is only on the Blu-Ray.

Crystal Skull Best Buy exclusive
  • The new hip trendy thing these days is to have DVD releases with different exclusive bits depending on which store you buy it from. For the most part, they’re shruggable. But I must admit that the Best Buy offering for Indiana Jones IV is kinda snazzy if you like the film. It is a “Gift Set with replica crystal skull from Sideshow Collectibles and a $25 gift card to Sideshowcollectibles.com.” That’s all well and good, but can I drink vodka out of it? You can order your non-snazzy DVD release here or your Blu-Ray-snazzy DVD release here.
  • There’s a big article here about the the Dreamworks/Paramount divorce. Honestly, you don’t need to know much of it. Tintin is the only project that had any activity and is now in danger of not happening, but that’s not news. The news I take away from this–and thus share with you–is the word that these are in the works: first, a Lemony Snicket 2, which stays at Paramount. I know, apparently it made money–who knew? Steven Spielberg is producing a remake of When Worlds Collide, which stays as a co-production between the two companies (i.e. joint visitation rights) like Transformers 2 is. Spielberg is directing Lincoln with Liam Neeson in the lead, this from a screenplay by Tony Kushner (Angels in America). Right now that last bit is supposed to start production in the spring.
