Your Weekend Justice #205: Gwyneth Paltrow

It’s Weekend Justice: the Internet’s #1 audio trainwreck–the podcast that, in the end, is neutral about who plays Luke Cage, since pretty much anyone who would be up for the role could kick our collective asses.

    Needcoffee podcasting

This podcast generally covers music and other transgressions and is co-hosted by Tuffley, Rob Levy and myself. Let us know what you think.

This episode’s central topic is supergroups: what happens when people known for being in one group (or outside a group altogether) decide to join forces.

Other topics include Prince vs. the internet, Al Jarreau, Kings of Leon vs. pigeons and nuns.

James Brown: King of Musical Teamups

    James Brown with mic

So Rob sent me this: not sure where this was, but James Brown at first coaxes Michael Jackson up on stage. Then, according to Dr. Brown, Jackson insisted that Prince get pulled up on stage as well.

    Direct link for the feedreaders.

So do you think Jackson really wanted Prince up there, or was it something like…this?

Jackson: “If you’re going to call me up here, seriously, call that freaky Prince guy up here too. Bet you a hundred he takes off his shirt.”

Brown: “Okay, I’ll take that bet.”

They certainly were having plenty of conferences-on-the-mound–could have happened.

After the break, another Brown teamup I had forgotten happened.

Stuff: Catholic League On Board With ‘Angels and Demons’ Marketing Strategy

Angels and Demons book cover art

Some sites spend all their time and energy making you think everything pop culture-related is important. And if you’ve got nothing but time on your hands, then that’s fine. Some of us, though, have lives. Not us at the site, you understand. We mean you guys out there. We take what they need an entire site to cover and do it in one post. Have some of your day back. Enjoy.

  • Furthering evidence for my theory that the Catholic Church and Dan Brown are in cahoots, The Catholic League has announced it’s going to fight Angels and Demons, ensuring that everybody and his pet squirrel named Fred will see it. You’d think if anybody could appreciate the notion of a self-fulfilling prophecy… Source.
  • Amazon has Wiis back in stock, for those interested. Find Wii-ness here.
  • Anybody wanting Coke with real sugar, eyes forward. It’s coming up on Passover. If you live in a big city, keep your eyes open and buy whatever you want because I guarantee you that stuff will be gone the next time you walk in the store. Last year I couldn’t find a single bottle. Coke’s price hikes and my desire to cut back on sugar finally broke my Coke addiction, but I still maintain that Coke is missing a trick. Stuff You Need to Know: The Phantom Goes to Coney Island

    Prince: Lotusflower

Other sites want to make you wade through post after post of pop culture news. Here it’s like a band-aid: rip it off quick, it’ll hurt less.

  • Prince is going to release three new albums this year without using a record label. “A ‘major retailer’ is in talks with the artist to release the music physically, while a new Prince Web site will sell it in digital form.” The titles are MPLSOUND and Lotus Flower, while Elixir will be coming out from Bria Valente, who’s described as his protege. He said of Elixir: “We got sick of waiting for Sade to make a new album.” I have this odd image of Prince in a laboratory growing Bria from some Sade DNA. Or…something. Of the music that’s coming, what I’m looking forward to hearing is the “Crimson and Clover” cover on Flower. That has badass potential. I’m hoping for something along these lines:
