32 Days of Halloween VII, Day 14: The Man Who Changed His Mind!

Man Who Lived Again aka Man Who Changed His Mind

Yes, we’re hanging with Karloff in tonight’s feature presentation. But before we get there, another Rox of Spazhouse find–and damn, it’s an excellent one. Someone put together a short tribute video for this year’s Peter Cushing centenary. And as far as I’m concerned, they get huge points for not forgetting his turn in Top Secret! Well played.

Then, it’s story time. Jeffrey Combs, known for playing Herbert West in the movie version of Lovecraft‘s Re-Animator, reads the whole story in six parts. As I mentioned when I did the same thing, the language and attitudes of the story are considerably dated. So don’t be surprised. And for some reason, this appears to be completely out of print and unavailable.

Halloween Audio Day 18: Herbert West, Re-Animator – Part 3

H.P. Lovecraft

Part Three of Lovecraft‘s tale is here: Six Shots by Moonlight.

Content advisory: the writing of this entire piece was completed in 1922 and in certain bits of the content, shall we say–especially in this installment–it shows. I think it will be readily apparent which bits I mean, if you are unfamiliar with the original story. If you find them unpleasant to hear, be aware they were also unpleasant to perform. Just a headsup I felt I should give.

Halloween Audio Day 8: Herbert West, Re-Animator – Part 1

H.P. Lovecraft

This H.P. Lovecraft classic was originally serialized in multiple parts, so I don’t feel bad about breaking it up for this. While fun to read, there’s not a lot to work with on an emotional level, which is…a change from what I normally like to read. But it is Lovecraft, so what can you do? Enjoy.

Stuff You Need to Know: Hollis Needs More Friends

Hollis Hawthorne
  • Hollis Hawthorne is a performer who’s been involved in an accident in India. The Lady Porphyre mentioned this first, then I saw The Neil and Uncle Warren both do so. The full story is at Coilhouse. She’s got clearance to get treated at Stanford Medical here in the States as opposed to where she is now, where her boyfriend states “there are huge rats scurrying around on the
[hospital] floor. I am sleeping on the ant-covered floor outside her room as I am not allowed in and the water they have used for many procedures is not even purified.” So they have to get her out of there and back here. The Friends of Hollis are trying to pull together the money to do so. Go here and help if you can. I’m donating for the boyfriend as much as I am for Hollis. I know that sounds weird, but I’m just imagining what I’d be going through if my significant other was going through this and the whole thing was almost completely out of my control. Hang in there, both of you.
  • Beatles: Rock Band is now available for pre-order–the software version, apparently–for $59.99. The “limited edition bundles” aren’t yet. But stay tuned, I’m watching for them. They’ll run you $249.99. “Exclusive content” will be there for people who pre-order, apparently. And for you total Beatles freaks (I am among you), “Accompanying instruments modeled after the ones used by Paul, John, George and Ringo also will be available for $100. The game will be playable with existing ‘Rock Band’ guitars, drums and microphones, though.” And here’s a nice touch: remember what I said about “Revolution 9”? Release date is 9/9/09. If you’re going to buy it anyway, if you could do it through us: we’d love the kickbacks. Thanks in advance: here’s links to buy your copy for the Wii, your copy of it for the Xbox 360 or if you own a PS3, you can get your copy here. Source.

Stuff You Need to Know: Herbert West For the Defense

    Re-Animator Hack Slash crossover
  • The Booths is a series on Showtime that will feature the Booth brothers–one of them being John Wilkes–and the time before J.W. went on to kill President Lincoln. Kevin Bacon will executive producer. If it’s anything like The Tudors on Showtime, there will be an odd amount of exposed flesh for a period piece… Source: Variety.
  • Devil’s Due comic Hack/Slash is having issues with somebody who claims to have the rights to Re-Animator, so Diamond has decided, for legal reasons, not to distribute the planned three-issue crossover (or at least not distribute it any more). Devil’s Due is therefore self-distributing them.

Buy your copies here if you want to check them out–looks like it’ll be the only way to do so. For more details on the weird nature of this, check out io9. (Update: Site is long gone.)

This actually has nothing to do with the comic, but I wish somebody would hack and slash this video.

Re-Animate My Soul After Watching This God-Rotted Video

Remember how in the original Re-Animator it seems that Dean Halsey, after being brought back to life, is in incredible pain? In fact, all the re-animated dead with the exception of you-know-who, the Headless Perv, seem to be tormented beyond belief.

The reason is finally revealed: hell is having this song stuck in your head.
