32 Days of Halloween Part VIII, Day 25: Tales From the Crypt!

Tales From the Crypt

Ah, the EC Comics vein. No pun intended. There’s just something so satisfying about the normal plot structure of these stories, in which somebody winds up getting their just desserts. Or even unjust desserts, doesn’t much matter. For today’s 32 Days of Halloween entry, I’ve selected a couple of episodes for your dancing and dining pleasure. First up, “The Reluctant Vampire,” because anything that has both Malcolm McDowell and George Wendt in the cast is pretty much a shoo-in. Then we go to “Death of Some Salesmen” with another amazing cast: Ed Begley, Jr., Yvonne De Carlo (yes, Lily Munster) and Tim Curry thrice. How could you say no?

NOTE: Remember, this was an HBO series. So these episodes should be considered definitely NSFW. Enjoy.

32 Days of Halloween Part VIII, Day 12: The Worst Witch

Tim Curry - Anything Can Happen on Halloween from The Worst Witch

Many are the Halloween specials that we’ve enjoyed during 32 Days of Halloween over the years. However, can any of them be as 80stastic as 1986’s The Worst Witch which aired multiple times on The Disney Channel? In the UK, the Jill Murphy book series spawned a TV series, a spinoff series and a sequel series (which starred Felicity Jones (Felicia Hardy from Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Una Stubbs (Mrs. Hudson in BBC’s Sherlock)). But here we received Diana Rigg, Charlotte Rae and a very young and post-Return to Oz Fairuza Balk. We also got Tim Curry–and the song “Anything Can Happen on Halloween” has no doubt been seen (at least a bit of it) by everybody.

Even if you don’t watch the whole thing, you truly owe it to yourself to watch the first few minutes because 1) you’ll appreciate Hogwarts even more the next time you see and B) their method of bell-ringing is fan-tastic. Enjoy.

Tim Curry as Shakespeare and Ian McShane as Marlowe? Yes, have some. It’s the Brit miniseries here across two discs and A&E has launched a spare copy our direction so we can, in turn, launch it at you. That is, if you’re the winner. To be the winner you must have your name drawn at random from the entries we receive. And we receive those entries by you using the form below. And you can use that form once a day. Nice, huh?

Anyone Want Some Luggage?

Luggage from Colour of Magic up for auction

Rox writes in to let us know that the Luggage is up for auction. Not just any luggage, though. The Luggage from Sky One’s adaptation of Colour of Magic. As I write this, it’s currently at £2,150. And if you know anything about the exchange rates these days, that means it’s roughly $10,000 in US currency. But the good news is that the Pratchett Nation continues its assault against Alzheimer’s, and 100% of the purchase price goes to Alzheimer’s research. Nice.

On a side note, some of you on this side of the pond might be saying: “Colour of Magic? Sky One? Eh?” Yes, apparently. Check out the official site with the trailer. David Jason, Sean Astin, Tim Curry and Christopher Lee as the voice of Death. Wow, Christopher Lee as Death. What great casting. That airs on Easter in the UK.

As Ken says after watching the trailer, it’s possible to do a completely faithful TV adaptation of Hitchhiker’s Guide. Somebody get on that, would you?
