Your Weekend Justice #147: If You Had to Sleep With a Stooge

It’s Weekend Justice: the Internet’s #1 audio trainwreck. It’s the podcast arrow in the quiver of Arrowette. And Arrowette is in the quiver of Galactus. Or something. This podcast was engineered–some might say over-engineered–by experts to escort you from the work week in the most chaotic manner possible. Please note: this podcast is profane, definitely oversexed and definitely overwrought. It is wrong and unsafe. You have been warned.

While Jake Shimabukuro Gently Wails on His Uke

    Jake Shimabukuro

At one of the ukulele spectrum, there’s the late Tiny Tim and his rendition of “Tiptoe Through the Tulips.” At the other end is Jake Shimabukuro, who proceeds to throw down on the George Harrison/Beatles composition “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” It’s not often that you will see “ukulele” and “throw down” appear together, at least on this site. But all I can say is Just Damn.

    Uke! You’re Damn Right…

When you first hear that The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is covering Isaac Hayes’ “Theme from Shaft,” that alone is worth a chuckle. However, not only is it amusing because of their performance–the musical bit is quite good, too.

It’s funny–the ukulele doesn’t get a lot of respect. You see it and you start snickering. Okay, maybe not you. Maybe that’s just me. But regardless, I think what we need is a Les Claypool of ukuleles. Thoughts?

Another vid of uke goodness after the break.

Jonathan Coulton’s “Code Monkey,” Now With 100% RDA of Uke

    Kristen Shirts on Ukulele

Okay, so the story is this: Jonathan Coulton, musician for the people, worked with Quick Stop Entertainment to do a remix contest for his song, “Code Monkey.” Kristen Shirts won for having the most original approach, that was not only eminently listenable…but she got bonus points for her use of a ukulele. You can hear her version (and others) here.

Just a couple of days ago, Kristen joined Jonathan onstage for a live version of the remix. Below the break, you can also find the two of them performing “Tom Cruise Crazy” as well. Awesome.
