32 Days of Halloween IX, Day 14: The Creeping Flesh!

Creeping Flesh (1973)

First up for tonight, we go to your friends and ours, Mitchell & Webb, for a brief interpretation of Dracula as delivered through their madness. I think I’d like to see David Mitchell be the protagonist in some insane horror movie, pretty much played the way he plays it here. This is from their radio series, That Mitchell & Webb Sound.

Yakuza Apocalypse is the Vampire Yakuza Action Fantasy Film You Didn’t Know You Needed

Yakuza Apocalypse

Takashi Miike is an absolute maniac. He brought you such films as Ichi the Killer, Audition and 13 Assassins. And now… Yakuza Apocalypse. Now, if you are a frequent visitor to this site, doubtless you are already ready to watch this film, based on the title alone. But now…you simply have to watch the trailer. It’s a red band trailer, but mostly it’s just…what I imagine dropping acid and watching Battles Without Honor or Humanity would be like. Enjoy.

32 Days of Halloween Part VIII, Day 25: Tales From the Crypt!

Tales From the Crypt

Ah, the EC Comics vein. No pun intended. There’s just something so satisfying about the normal plot structure of these stories, in which somebody winds up getting their just desserts. Or even unjust desserts, doesn’t much matter. For today’s 32 Days of Halloween entry, I’ve selected a couple of episodes for your dancing and dining pleasure. First up, “The Reluctant Vampire,” because anything that has both Malcolm McDowell and George Wendt in the cast is pretty much a shoo-in. Then we go to “Death of Some Salesmen” with another amazing cast: Ed Begley, Jr., Yvonne De Carlo (yes, Lily Munster) and Tim Curry thrice. How could you say no?

NOTE: Remember, this was an HBO series. So these episodes should be considered definitely NSFW. Enjoy.

32 Days of Halloween VII, Day 20: Ganja & Hess

Ganja and Hess

Again, before we get to our Blaxploitative feature film for this evening, we spend some quality time with The Shat and his appearance on the Ray Bradbury Theater episode, “The Playground.” Would anyone who frequents this site honestly consider all aspects of childhood to be flowers and sunshine and Atari 2600s? No. And your Uncle Ray knows this.

Win Embrace(s) of the Vampires on Blu-Ray!

Embrace of the Vampire 1995 Blu-Ray Embrace of the Vampire 2013 Blu-Ray

Today, Anchor Bay is releasing not just the original 1995 Embrace of the Vampire but the 2013 remake of the same, both unrated and both on Blu-Ray. Remake I say? Yes, I do. Here’s what they have to say for themselves:

EMBRACE OF THE VAMPIRE (2013) stars Sharon Hinnendael as Charlotte, a timid and sheltered teen who has just left an all-girls Catholic school for a new life at a co-ed university. But an ancient evil has followed her here, tormenting her with disturbing nightmares and tempting her with forbidden desires. It is a hunger that can only be satiated by sensual pleasures of the flesh…and a thirst for blood. It’s a battle for her soul… and one she’s losing. But Charlotte is a fighter. The chaos and torment threatens to unleash her own inner beast, and anyone even close to her may find themselves embracing their own horrific fate.

32 Days of Halloween VII, Day 10: Vampire Over London!

Bela Lugosi in Vampire Over London

First things first…in previous years I’ve posted some Japanese trailers of English language horror movies. The theory was that the really deep, booming, scary voice speaking Japanese over horrific imagery made things even scarier than usual. I had no idea what they were saying: they could have been coupling Day of the Dead with a dramatic reading of Dr. Seuss or something and how would I know? However, I amend my earlier theory to say that…I think trailers in Japan are more fucked up in general. Case in point: The Amityville Horror was a bit scary…but this Japanese trailer…sans narration…makes it look like a change-your-shorts piece of insanity. Check it out…
