Stuff You Need to Know: Wheel of Time Ends by 2010

Robert Jordan
Author Robert Jordan
  • Amazon now has both Ghostbusters on Blu-Ray for sale ($20.49 and it’s available in June) and the second season of Pushing Daisies on DVD ($27.99 and it’s available in July). Click on each of those to pre-order them.
  • The Wheel of Time is getting its final book. No, wait, trilogy. Hell, I don’t know. This press release is confusing as hell. Basically the twelfth book of the long-running series by the late Robert Jordan is called A Memory of Light, which is the end of the series. It will be co-written by Brandon Sanderson, picked by Jordan’s wife and editor (note: same person) to finish what Jordan started, and will be released over the next two years. Book 12 is called The Gathering Storm and hits on November 3rd. Apparently “JordanCon” is happening in Alpharetta GA (my neck of the woods) April 17-19 and Harriet McDougal (Mrs. Jordan), Sanderson, and Tor editor Tom Doherty will all be in attendance. The book is not available for pre-order, but oddly the audiobook is. Image source.

  • Farrah Fawcett has been hospitalized in another round of her ongoing battle with cancer. Our best to her and her family. Source.
  • The aforementioned Christopher Nolan-helmed Inception has Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose), Cillian Murphy (Scarecrow from the updated Batman franchise) and Ellen Page (Juno) coming on board. Production this summer but you won’t see the film, whatever the sci-fi thing is about, until next year. Source.
  • Okay, so…Mutants looks like an unkindler, less gentle French 28 Days Later, yes?

Not sure what’s happening according to the dialogue but it’s all bad. All of it. No release date yet for stateside, it’s already out in Germany, as you can see it hits France next month. Found via io9.

  • Christian Bale is busy as hell these days. He’s Batman, he’s John Connor, and now he’s attached himself to Prisoners, a thriller in which a man’s daughter and her friend get kidnapped and he tries to extract information on their whereabouts from the guy he believes responsible. Mark Wahlberg is already attached to the project and Bryan Singer is circling it to possibly helm. Source.
  • Snow White his Blu-Ray in a 2Blu-Ray+DVD combo pack on October 6th…and normal DVD purchasers will have to wait until November 24th. It’s going to have new bonus bits, which is pretty interesting, since the Platinum Edition which came out previously on DVD was pretty damn spiffy and set a standard for Platinum Editions that, sadly, Disney seldom reaches anymore. Neither version is available for pre-order yet–watch this space and I’ll let you know.
  • Toxic Avenger: The Musical is now at New World Stages in New York City. The soundtrack hits May 6th. You can pre-order yours here. And if you’re in the area, you can snag tickets here.
  • Zombies of Mass Destruction might just have some of the best one-liners in recent zombie movie history. Just when you think the “Don’t shoot” bit is the winner, the last line of the trailer takes it over the top. Yeah, I’m in.
