Saman Doye – #TrackoftheDay

Black Brothers
Indonesia, 1978

Source: Facebook.

I may have mentioned this before–but when I post a band photo for one of these tracks…I try to find a picture of the band from around the time that the track was produced or performed. Sometimes that’s not possible with the information that I have…the Black Brothers, for example: I found pictures of them with different numbers of members. Did some leave the band? Join later? Was one of them the person holding the camera? Had two of them just walked off to get some takeout? Who the hell knows? So anyway, if anybody from this band or any other ever thinks, “Hey, Steve wasn’t in the band when we did that!” Then I apologize in advance.

All that being said, I know I’ve mentioned this compilation before. On Weekend Justice if nothing else. It’s Those Shocking Shaking Days: Indonesian Hard, Psychedelic, Progressive Rock and Funk 1970-1978. And hot damn, there’s not a bad track on there. Enjoy this sample of global funk.
