32 Days of Halloween XII, Day 29: The Monkey’s Paw!

The Monkeys Paw (1948)

For today’s pick, we have a 1975 track from the UK band Babe Ruth and their self-titled album. It’s “Jack O’Lantern.” You probably know them best for “The Mexican,” which has been sampled in scads of tracks, not the least of which is “Planet Rock” by Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force.

For tonight’s film, we go to 1948’s The Monkey’s Paw, the fifth film adaptation of the W.W. Jacobs short story. Not bad, considering at that point, the story had only been around since 1902. And yes, I know that the image up top is from the 1933 lost version of the film, but I’ll be damned if I could find a good image from the 1948 one to use. So c’est la guerre. But before we get there, because we can, here’s a version of it from the radio program Christopher Lee’s Fireside Tales.
