When you think about it, this was probably going to happen sooner or later. Pixar has been basically perfect since Toy Story, but every artist lays a rotten egg eventually. I’ll bet there’s a return to form ahead for them.
Your disappointment is palpable. Thanks for the review. I liked “Megamind,” but I’m a comics fan, and so did my kids. My mother LOATHED it. It clearly wasn’t “for her.” The kids will eventually see Cars 2, but we might wait for it to come out on DVD. I have a family of 6. Buying the DVD is a LOT less expensive.
I figured, that Cars 2 would be a let down. I have noticed that the quality of the Disney movie is usually inversely proportional to the push on the two Disney channels.
And they have been pushing Cars 2 hard, which set off my alarm ,with all of the promos, tie-ins and bumpers on their channels. Tangled and Toy Story 3 were less intensely marketed.
I disagree about the kids like it thing, since I brought mine, and we left because they felt bombarded to the point of boredom. Despite what critics said about the first one, it had it’s heart in the right place but, Cars 2 had no soul. None. It was just a clutter of toys that you play with for two seconds and throw away. It was the McDonald’s toy of cinema. My kids didn’t regret seeing the wrong movie they just forgot about and moved on to better things. Oh, and the cars being tortured was upsetting to the kids.
John: Yes, I’ve stated that I liked the first one too. It was fluff but hey, I liked it. Paul Newman AS a racing car. Right? And I’m curious…how old were your kids? Because I was thinking really young kids might enjoy it. Yes, you get too old and kids are far too sophisticated for this. Thanks for the comment.
