Music Monday: Skream, Firehouse Five Plus Two, Carpark North & More…

More music picks for your Monday. If you like what you hear, use the links provided to snag it for yourself from Amazon. Doing so through us gives us kickbacks, and those help pay for stuff like more bandwidth. And also so we can buy more music. Just note: any prices we quote are accurate as of when this post goes up.

Skream: Outside the Box
Firehouse Five Plus Two: The Very Best of

[ad#shortpost]
We kick off this week with Skream featuring Sam Frank from their album Outside the Box. This is “Where You Should Be.”

It’s available as a CD or MP3 download, but the MP3 is much, much cheaper. So go that way.

One of the great things about Spotify is that you come across more of artists that you’ve always meant to explore but never quite got to. And that extends twice to The Firehouse Five Plus Two, the jazz band comprised of Disney animators. We’ve mentioned them before. But Spotify has a decent selection of them. And here’s them with “Everybody Loves My Baby.”

I could (and will) listen to that all night. Their stuff is available as well from Amazon.

Carpark North: Lost
Blind Blake and the Victoria Royal Hotel Calypsos

Speaking of Spotify, I looked up Carpark North, whose song “Human” gave us one of the best music videos I’ve seen in a long time. The good news is they reworked the song for their 2010 album Lost. It didn’t need reworking, but it’s a nice revisit. The bad news is they lived up to the name of the album by splicing themselves into the video, thus taking something sublime and awesome and making it…well, something they would play on [insert wherever music video channel still exists]. And thus…lost. Sad. Therefore, I will give you the song and not the video. If you want to see the badass original, we posted it here.

I’m sure it was the label’s idea. Let’s go with that. The album’s available as both an import CD and an MP3 download. But the CD’s cheaper for some odd reason. So go with that.

This is Blind Blake and the Victoria Royal Hotel Calypsos from a self-titled compilation of their songs. Not to be confused with the blues guitarist Blind Blake. This is “Love, Love Alone.”

Excellent stuff, that. Best place to find it is via Bandcamp. Otherwise you’re looking at vinyl copies that are a bit pricey.

Arkham Karvers: The Prices They Pay
Were Late For Class: A Collection

Next up, it’s Arkham Karvers and the track “Ribbons.” It’s taken from their just-out EP, The Prices They Pay.

The MP3 is available as well as the CD…but the MP3 is much cheaper.

Another one of those tracks that I stumbled across and I have no idea where I acquired it. This is from the band We’re Late For Class who describe themselves on their Bandcamp site as “Live, all improv college outfit with over a dozen rotating members.” And their stuff is free. This track is “A Buoy, 40 Yards Out.”

That’s from their “A Collection” compiliation. Check them out here.
