32 Days of Halloween XVI, Day 23

The Gashlycrumb Tinies
Tennessee Tuxedo
Dark Places

A snippet of the poster for the movie DARK PLACES (1974)...three faces are either freaking out or dead, reflected red in a pickaxe, which is being held by a skeleton hand.

To begin with for tonight, a very silly animated version of Edward Gorey’s timeless classic, The Gashlycrumb Tinies. If you’re unfamiliar with it, first of all…either grab it yourself or tell a friend so they’ll have an easy gift decision to make for your next gifting occasion. Read it first before experiencing it in this fashion. But if you are familiar, it’s a fun way to revisit it.

Staying in the realm of animation, here’s a Halloweeny episode of Tennessee Tuxedo, the penguin who sounds remarkably like Don Adams. Since he’s, you know, voiced by Don Adams.

And for tonight’s feature, we go to 1974 and Dark Places. An inherited estate has money hidden somewhere, and folks are trying to locate it while the mentally wobbly chap who inherited the place starts experiencing…difficulties. Helluva cast in this one: Christopher Lee, Robert Hardy, Joan Collins, Herbert Lom, Jean Marsh, Jane Birkin (Evil Under the Sun (1982)), and Carelton Hobbs (Sherlock on radio from 1952-1969). Enjoy.
