32 Days of Halloween XV, Day 12: The Devil’s Messenger!

Starting off for tonight…horror masks. Not the thin, plastic ones of my childhood back in 1768 that had punched out eyeholes that would try to slice your eyelids off. No, here we get a look at a professional maskmonger doing his thing.

Next, we received word today that Angela Lansbury died, aged 96. We talk about famous actresses of the horror genre on screen…but Dame Angela was a Scream Queen of Broadway. I know everybody loves her for Jessica Fletcher, but my favorite role of hers was Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd. (With Bedknobs & Broomsticks coming in a close second.)

Here she is with original Todd, Len Cariou, performing at Sondheim’s 75th birthday concert. I know we’ve posted it before, but it’s pure theatre at its best. She was and is a treasure.

So we’ve posted about 13 Demon Street before…it was an anthology series starring Lon Chaney Jr. as the “host.” It was made in Sweden and never aired in the USA. But they cut three of the episodes together with a new framing story (with Chaney playing “host” again but in a different role) and Bob’s your Swedish uncle. Enjoy!
